Ethical Standards for Authors
Introduction
The International Journal of Clinical Anesthesia and Research (IJCAR) upholds the highest ethical standards in publishing. Authors submitting to IJCAR must adhere to internationally recognized publication ethics guidelines as defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).
“Ethical authorship ensures that published research remains credible, transparent, and reproducible — the foundation of scientific trust.”
Authorship Criteria
- Substantial contributions to the conception, design, data collection, or interpretation of results.
- Drafting or critically revising the manuscript for intellectual content.
- Final approval of the version to be published.
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must submit only original works that have not been published elsewhere or are under review in another journal. Plagiarism in any form (verbatim copying, paraphrasing without credit, or self-plagiarism) is strictly prohibited. IJCAR uses iThenticate and Turnitin to verify originality.
Data Integrity and Reproducibility
- Data presented must be accurate, unaltered, and verifiable upon request.
- Fabrication, falsification, or selective omission of results constitutes misconduct.
- Authors should retain primary data for at least five years post-publication.
Conflict of Interest
Authors must disclose all financial or non-financial conflicts that could influence the research results or interpretations. The disclosure should appear in a dedicated “Conflict of Interest” section at the end of the manuscript.
Ethical Approval and Consent
- Research involving human participants must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki.
- Animal studies must follow institutional and national ethical guidelines for animal welfare.
- Ethical approval numbers and institution names must be clearly stated.
- For patient data or identifiable information, written informed consent is mandatory.
Multiple or Redundant Publications
Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. Re-publication of already published work without full disclosure and permission is considered unethical.
Authorship Changes
- Any changes in authorship (addition, removal, or order change) after submission require written consent from all listed authors.
- Requests for changes post-acceptance are rarely approved and require Editor-in-Chief’s justification review.
Acknowledgments
Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria (e.g., technical or editorial assistance) must be listed in the Acknowledgment section with their permission.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Authors must disclose the use of AI tools (e.g., language generation, image enhancement, data analysis) in the preparation of manuscripts or figures. AI tools cannot be listed as co-authors. Responsibility remains with human authors.
Misconduct and Sanctions
| Type of Misconduct | Examples | Editorial Action |
|---|---|---|
| Plagiarism | Copying text or ideas without attribution | Immediate rejection or retraction |
| Data Fabrication | Inventing or falsifying results | Retraction, report to institution |
| Duplicate Submission | Submitting to multiple journals | Blacklisting for 2 years |
| Authorship Fraud | Misrepresenting contributors | Institutional notification and removal |
Post-Publication Responsibilities
Authors must promptly notify the Editor if they discover errors or inaccuracies after publication. IJCAR allows publication of corrections, errata, or retractions following COPE guidelines.
Penalties and Institutional Reporting
- Confirmed cases of ethical violations are reported to the author’s institution or funding agency.
- Offending authors may face temporary or permanent bans from future submissions.
