Introduction

The International Journal of Clinical Anesthesia and Research (IJCAR) maintains strict ethical standards regarding the withdrawal of manuscripts. Once submitted, a manuscript becomes part of the journal’s editorial workflow, and withdrawal must follow transparent, justified procedures.

“Unethical or unjustified withdrawal disrupts editorial operations and violates publication ethics.”

Definition of Withdrawal

Withdrawal refers to the removal of a submitted manuscript from the journal’s editorial process, either by the author or the editorial team, before formal publication. IJCAR permits withdrawal under legitimate reasons only.

Acceptable Reasons for Withdrawal

  • Manuscript contains significant errors affecting results or interpretation.
  • Data integrity issues or ethical concerns identified post-submission.
  • Duplicate submission mistakenly made to multiple journals.
  • Author’s institution withdraws support due to ethical oversight.

Unacceptable Reasons for Withdrawal

Withdrawal requests for reasons such as delays in review, changes in authorship, or journal preference shifts are deemed unethical and may result in sanctions.

Important: IJCAR discourages withdrawal after acceptance or during production unless supported by valid ethical or legal grounds.

Stages of Withdrawal Requests

Stage Condition Editorial Action
Before Peer Review Request permitted with formal justification. Immediate removal from workflow.
During Peer Review Permitted only with valid scientific or ethical reasons. Approval by Editor-in-Chief required.
After Acceptance Withdrawal not encouraged; may incur penalty fee. Written consent and explanation mandatory.
Post Publication Treated as Retraction, not withdrawal. COPE Retraction Guidelines apply.

Procedure for Manuscript Withdrawal

  1. Submit a formal withdrawal request to [email protected].
  2. Include title, manuscript ID, and detailed reason for withdrawal.
  3. Obtain consent from all co-authors, signed and attached as a PDF.
  4. Await confirmation email from the Editor-in-Chief before considering the manuscript withdrawn.

Author Penalties for Unethical Withdrawal

  • Official notification to author’s institution or funding body.
  • Blacklisting of corresponding author for up to two years.
  • Non-refund of processing charges (if applicable).
  • Publication of notice on journal website if misconduct confirmed.

Withdrawal Fee

If withdrawal occurs after acceptance or proofing, authors may be liable to pay an administrative fee covering editorial and production costs. The current standard withdrawal processing charge is USD 200.

Publisher’s Rights

IJCAR reserves the right to withdraw or retract manuscripts under the following circumstances:

  • Suspected plagiarism or data manipulation.
  • Legal or copyright violations.
  • Scientific misconduct or ethical non-compliance.

Post-Publication Withdrawal (Retraction)

Once published, manuscripts cannot be withdrawn but may be retracted following COPE guidelines. Retraction notices remain permanently accessible and linked to the original article.
